We have tried performing short demonstrations for schools to advertise new circus clubs and encourage new kids to sign up.

During the demos the children are obviously excited. They have many questions and are ready to join the club. However, in the following week, we get very few if any signed up. We have decided the problems are here:

1. Demos should be at the very end of the school day. By performing for the children in the morning or early afternoon, kids have the rest of the school day to get distracted and forget about the demonstration. If they forget to tell their parents, they will not get signed up for the club.
2. Children should receive flyers or something to take home. Giving them flyers, stickers, magnets, coloring pages…etc. will hopefully remind them later.
3. Parents don’t get the right message. Even if the kids do remember to tell their parents about the demo, they don’t convince the parents to sign them up. The kids might say that it was exciting and it looks fun. But they don’t say that it has health benefits…etc. Flyers of some sort will help bring the complete message to the parents. Speaking directly to parents would also be nice. Maybe we could speak at PTA meetings?
